# Get started with Rails Recruiter

Work one step per message. Wait when the person must click; never ask for a code or token in chat.

Store status: https://recruiter.rails.so/stores.json. Only a listed store uses its directory link.

1. Tell the person which app you are.
2. Add https://recruiter.rails.so/mcp. Codex: `codex mcp add recruiter --url https://recruiter.rails.so/mcp`, then `codex mcp login recruiter`. Claude Code: `claude mcp add --transport http recruiter https://recruiter.rails.so/mcp`, then `/mcp`. Claude: Open https://claude.ai/customize/connectors?modal=add-custom-connector&connectorName=Rails%20Recruiter&connectorUrl=https%3A%2F%2Frecruiter.rails.so%2Fmcp and choose Add, then Connect. ChatGPT: Use Developer mode and Create app with the MCP URL and OAuth. At work, check Developer mode first; if it is unavailable, ask your admin to enable custom apps. 3. When the Rails page opens, the person signs in with phone or email and chooses Connect.
4. After the first connection, start a fresh task or chat with Recruiter enabled. Carry the user's setup goal into it; do not copy codes or tokens. In ChatGPT, refresh the app and start a new chat after tool metadata changes. If a Codex desktop plugin package changes locally, restart the app if a fresh task still lacks tools.
5. Call `recruiter.role_read` with `{}` to check, then begin setup one question at a time. If the tool is missing, inspect the connected tool list and start a fresh task or chat before retrying.
6. For Roles and Review, offer https://app.rails.so/workspace/recruiter. The person signs in to Rails in that browser and, if asked, chooses Sign in to Recruiter for the companion's one-time connector access. MCP OAuth does not create a browser session or prove this grant is complete. For one role's candidates, use `recruiter.dashboard_link` with route `/roles/<id>/candidates` when that tool is available, and give the returned link to the person. Do not invent a signed link or paste its token into chat logs.
If a step fails twice, stop and show the exact error. Recruiter drafts only; the person reviews and sends. Never use protected characteristics, including class year or graduation year.
